01Choose the architecture
On-grid systems reduce eligible grid consumption but normally shut down during outages. Off-grid systems support selected loads through batteries. Hybrid systems combine grid, PV and storage, but backup power and energy must be calculated separately. The best choice follows outage pattern, bill objective and budget.
02Sizing logic
Use twelve months of electricity units where possible, not only the bill amount. Estimate generation from local solar resource, losses and shade; verify sanctioned load, transformer/feeder conditions and roof area. Off-grid design additionally checks appliance watts, surge, daily energy, autonomy, battery DoD and future expansion.
03Price and subsidy
Installed price changes with module make and wattage, DCR/ALMM requirement, inverter, mounting height, roof type, cable route, lightning protection, earthing, approvals and monitoring. PM Surya Ghar support is eligibility- and portal-dependent; verify the live national portal and registered vendor process before committing.
04Installation quality
Demand a shade layout, structural anchoring detail, single-line diagram, string schedule, cable sizing, protection coordination, earthing test, insulation resistance, inverter configuration and generation baseline. Handover should include serial numbers, warranties, drawings, approvals and safe shutdown instructions.
Planning table
Compare before requesting a quote
| System | Indicative installed range | Roof allowance | Best for |
|---|
| 1 kW on-grid | ₹65,000–₹85,000 | ≈90–120 ft² | Small household |
| 3 kW on-grid | ₹1.65–₹2.10 lakh | ≈270–360 ft² | Typical home |
| 5 kW on-grid | ₹2.70–₹3.50 lakh | ≈450–600 ft² | Large home/clinic |
| 3 kW hybrid | ₹2.8–₹4.5 lakh | Battery dependent | Backup + savings |
Indicative ranges are planning aids for Patna, not quotations. Capacity, pressure, tank metallurgy, roof work, piping, controls, GST, transport, electrical work and warranty can change the signed price.
